There’s a big chunk of the Evangelical right that believes good white Christians should adopt poor foreign children and Americanize them, hopefully a Republican president doesn’t suddenly separate thousands of such children from their parents.

I haven’t seen this reported anywhere else so I’m not sure about it, but on the other hand… I’ve been wondering when it was going to happen. So maybe now? Ugh.

i can’t find proof that the devos family actually directly owns the agency, but it’s certainly true that they’re donors and a member of the extended family has been on the board.

bethany christian services has a bunch of these kidnapped asylum-seeking kids:

If you’re European, in a couple of weeks you will be denied any and all access to fandom contents on Tumblr and everywhere else on the internet. Here’s why.

On June, 20th the JURI of European Parliament approved of the articles 11 and 13 of the new Copyright Law. These articles are also known as the “Link Tax” and the “Censorship Machines” articles.

Articles 13 in particular forces every internet platform to filter all the contents we upload online, ending once and for all the fandom culture. Which means you won’t be able to upload any type of fandom works like fan arts, fan fictions, gif sets from your favourite films and series, edits, because it’s all copyrighted material. And you won’t also be able to share, enjoy or download other’s contents, because the use of links will be completely restricted.

But not everything’s lost yet. There’s another round of voting scheduled for the early days of July.

image

What you can do now to save our internet, is to share these informations with all of your family members and friends, and to ask to your MEP (the members of the European Parliament from your country) to vote NO at the next round, to vote against articles 11 and 13.

Here you can find more news and all the details to contact your MEP:

Also, sign and share this petition:

We have just a couple of weeks to stop this complete madness, don’t let them dictating the way we enjoy our internet.

so. i’ve gotten a lot of messages and asks about this, so i figure i’d address it.

Bakugou was not abused. Bakugou knows he was not abused.

Bakugou overheard Todoroki’s story of how Endeavor abused his family, and the expression he had on afterward says that Bakugou’s never been presented this this sort of situation before. it caught him off guard. it’s not- right. it isn’t normal

Bakugou wasn’t prepared to hear it.

and later on, he confronts Todoroki (trying to rile him up to fight him at full strength), and brings up his past. Bakugou says he doesn’t care about it. he’s trying very hard to convince Todoroki that hearing his past didn’t mean anything to him, except it clearly does. that’s why he’s bringing it up.

he does care. he does care about Todoroki’s home life. he does care about what Endeavor did to him. he wants Todoroki to let go of that and accept his powers as his own, just like Izuku did, but in his own, round-about, angry, rough way.

Bakugou does care.

and if he were abused, he would’ve had a different reaction to hearing Todoroki’s past. he would’ve felt kinship, or a connection, maybe flashback to something Mitsuki did to him and think something like “That’s what happened to me!” or show some sort of recognition to the similarities between their pasts and history.

but he doesn’t. instead, he was caught off guard. he’s unprepared. he probably knows home abuse happens, but he’s never been so close to it- never known someone it actually happened to.

he wasn’t sure what to do, because he’s never been in this situation before.

image

Bakugou lived a sheltered life. he was constantly praised, constantly rewarded, constantly told how awesome he was and always got what he wanted, and always got away with doing shitty things. even by his own mother’s admission, they praised him too much, and it gave him an overblown ego.

he was a big fish in a small pond, and he knows it. it’s why he struggled so much at UA after getting in, because he was forced to realize that he wasn’t as awesome as he thought, and it was a big blow.

Bakugou was spoiled.

later on, we see Bakugou suggest violence to corral the kids, citing his upbringing. which, for Bakugou, probably means smacking the kids lightly on the back of the head, because that’s what Mitsuki did to him whenever he made a smart remark or got himself into trouble.

that isn’t abuse. i’m not saying it’s right, either, but it’s far from abuse. it’s something common that happens in many households, and is especially common in japanese culture. it’s not abuse, and it’s not meant to be taken seriously.

look at the difference between Todoroki’s reaction to his father’s violence, and Bakugou’s reaction to Mitsuki’s slap. Todoroki looks absolutely terrified, crying into his mother’s shirt because his father hurt her, begging not to become like his father, and then pure anger at what Endeavor’s abuse did to his mother.

meanwhile, Bakugou threatens to send Mitsuki into the ceiling, in a completely comedic, not-serious manner. clearly, the slap didn’t bother him that much if he’s yelling such silly, hyperbolic statements back at his mother.

his reaction is much closer to one he has whenever his classmates mess with him than it is a reaction towards abuse.

not to mention, All Might and Aizawa would have done something if it were something serious. they’re two of the characters who care about children’s wellbeing the most.

back to my earlier point, when Todoroki vetoes Bakugou’s idea, Bakugou gets angry, but then he flashes back to when he learned about Todoroki’s past. he remembers what Endeavor did to Todoroki and his mom. he remembers his own horrified reaction to learning about it.

that’s exactly the kind of reaction someone would have when complaining about something, and then remembering someone else around you had it way worse

so Bakugou immediately drops it, under the guise of taunting Todoroki, but mostly because he doesn’t wanna push the issue when Todoroki’s had a bad history of violence from his own father since he was a child. he’s being conscientious of Todoroki’s home situation and upbringing, because he knows it was Bad.

Bakugou knows Mitsuki was rough on him. but he also knows that what he grew up with was completely different than what Todoroki lived through, and he, very clearly, drops the idea when he remembers this.

Bakugou respects Todoroki’s veto against the idea, because he knows about Todoroki’s personal history, and he’s being conscientious about Todoroki’s personal feelings on the issue. because he knows their personal experiences towards this are different, and Todoroki had it far worse, and he deserves to have that opinion on this subject respected and honored because of what he lived through.

Bakugou is suggesting smacking them on the back of the head, at most, because they’re being unruly and little smartasses, and that’s what his mom did to him when he was being an unruly little smartass. Bakugou knows Todoroki was abused, however, and drops the idea when Todoroki disagrees with it.

Bakugou was not abused. he knows he was not abused. he knows Todoroki was abused, however. and that’s enough for him to respect Todoroki’s voice on the matter.

related meta:

I want to mention my personal thoughts on this because I saw so many interesting comments from people who strongly believe that Bakugou was abused.

A lot of the comments were lumping Bakugou as an abused child just because Mitsuki was showed smacking him (and I’m very sure she smacked him throughout his whole life). I didn’t think much about it when I was reading because I thought that was perfectly normal discipline, coming from an Asian household and all. Not all physical “abuse” means, well, abuse. Just because both Todoroki and Bakugou were hit by their parents as a child doesn’t mean they received the same kind of abuse.

Mitsuki’s smack was obviously coming from love. Her telling Bakugou that he was weak and so it was his fault that he was kidnapped showed two things (and note that she said it in front of his teachers): first being, she wants Bakugou to be appreciative of the trouble that others are willing to go for him, so he doesn’t take the concern of others for granted, secondly, it’s an Asian thing, I feel, to always humble yourself in front of others. Bakugou is strong but obviously not the strongest in the world, and therefore could be captured. That is Mitsuki’s concern the whole time while raising her son, his inflated ego, and she hopes this serves as a reminder and an important lesson.

Someone also mentioned that Horikoshi chose to show Bakugou’s abuse as a child, as a comic relief and said it was Horikoshi’s “bad writing”. I think that was what triggered me to share my thoughts on this. Mitsuki and Endeavour’s disciplinary actions came from completely different places. Mitsuki does it out of love while Endeavour just does it for his own greed and it’s why Todoroki falls under the child abuse category and Bakugou does not.

Yah, some will now say, “But hitting a child is wrong no matter what.” This is really not anyone’s place to say. It falls under the grey area. I think the reason why there are so many debates on it, is because (and I’m guessing only because I’m by no means well-versed) it’s all just an issue of cultural difference. So many Asian kids grew up with the cane or with your parents hitting you on the butt with their bare hands, and so many other Asian kids didn’t, yet people still grow up okay. When you’re older, you understand that your parents feel the pain you feel when they hit you as well.

My cousins were abused by their dad (and they know they were being abused!) who hit them with belts when they don’t score well in their exams and tests. They know it was not out of love but only because it shames their father, basically causing their father to lose face. That will be what I consider abuse.

Bakugou knows he grew up spoiled by the teachers and peers. You can see his dad is probably the kind that doesn’t have an opinion of his own. So his mother is the only one looking out for his pride because she is genuinely worried for him and not because she’s worried about what others will say if he doesn’t turn out to be the genius he was once praised to be. She acknowledges, to his teachers, that her son has his strong points, being gifted in control of his quirks and fighting instincts, but isn’t afraid to remind him of his weaknesses as well. That right there is her love and concern.

Endeavour, well, it’s obvious and there’s nothing more to say.

So tl;dr it’s such a shame that people immediately see that adults who smack their kids should be sued and jailed or killed. Lol. Please look at cultural values of the country, and more importantly, read between the lines if the hits are coming from a good or bad place.

p.s Just because Bakugou showed concern for Todoroki’s situation doesn’t necessarily mean he relates and was an abused child himself. Deku was concerned for Todoroki as well and is definitely not an abused child, albeit the bullying from peers. Both Deku and Bakugou are aspiring heroes! Of course they care for people who need help!!

Anonymous I think its really weird that everyone is ok with all might texas smashing deku but has a melt down at mitsuki

Haha yeah, it just shows how everyone views and prioritizes the same thing differently. The scene with all might and deku is obviously played for laughs, but if you were to view it with the same realistic lense, what all might did to deku is several times more problematic than what Mitsuki did to her son.

This is worse. Looking at these you can tell they have no significant monetary value. They were confiscated as a fear tactic. Nothing more.

This picture breaks my heart everytime it appears in my dash. It’s a fear tactic, alright but—

The first one in the left corner: It’s a first communion rosary, and it’s not cheap.

The black one in the first line: That’s a widow rosary and it’s old.

The white one in the second line:  is a commemoration rosary. It has a miniature picture in the round part. I haven’t seen that since the 70′s.

In the third line, multicolor one: It’s an Anima mundi, I have only seen those in the hands of Rosary ministery’s old ladies. The oldest ones are from the 80′s after Juan Pablo II came to Mexico for the first time. It’s one of the old ones, I know because the crucifixes are different.

The third one on the fourth line: Red and gold. The style is old, the metal is dark, that’s a 50′s rosary, probably a quinceañera one (or it’s maybe older, from the 40′s when the brides carried red roses with their offerings).

The fifth one on the fourth line: It’s a quinceañera rosary with Ignatius’s tear. The style is old and in my part of Mexico is orphan girls who used it. At least it was when I was young.

The third one of the fifth line: the blue one with the anchor. That one I have only seen in Veracruz and it doesn’t look new.

The fifth one on the fifth line: That’s a 90′s wedding rosary. Black and white patterns were popular on that date.

The fourth one on the last line: That’s a first communion rosary from the 30′s. It’s delicate and most probably silver.

The rest wrench my heart too, the humble everyday rosaries with wooden beads and knots. Those are cheap and bear the wear and tear of their user handling. But those  I described are much more.

Those are mother’s rosaries.

Those are not just rosaries. Those are mementos, that’s the proof of their families stories. They are taking from them the only portable things they can carry to feel the connection to their families.

It’s not a fear tactic. Call it like by its name.

It’s dehumanization.

On the topic of bakugou’s mom, I **personally** think it’s a bit extreme to call her abusive. Now, I’m not saying Mitsuki is a good parent, but I don’t think she should be labeled as abusive either. I think many people are looking at parenting with a very eurocentric view. Yes, hitting your child is bad, but this is a common discipline method in Asian households. If you’ve ever seen a kdrama, you’ve probably seen the mother smack their daughter or son over the head with enough force for their child to jolt forward.

When I first read the scene where Mitsuki was introduced I thought “oh, bakugou is loved” because I had originally thought bakugou was a neglected child. Like.. what kind of parent would not care enough to discipline their child and let their personality become this bad. But when Mitsuki was introduced, I understood that she cares for him and loves him enough to give him a good smack when he is in the wrong. Bakugou was constantly praised as a child and I’m glad that he has someone in his life who could kick him off his high horse.

REMEMBER THIS IS ONLY MY PERSONAL OPINION AND THE IMPRESSION I GOT AS SOMEONE WHO GREW UP IN AN ASIAN HOUSEHOLD.

(( also all might texas smashed deku in the face in the same episode but nobody is making a big deal out of it. that’s a pretty gutsy move considering they have no familial relationship. Imagine a middle aged teacher punching their 14-15 y.o. student in the face as a way of reprimanding them.))
